In the 2000s, Rauschenberg continued his artistic exploration, embracing new materials and technology while reflecting on his past works. He utilized Iris printers for digital color prints, leading to vibrant, large-scale works in series like Waterworks and Anagrams. Despite new methods, his later pieces often looked back at earlier themes and were autobiographical. Following a stroke in 2002, he adapted his practice but maintained his creative output and collaborations until his passing in 2008 (Rauschenberg Foundation).
